March 19-21, 1865, North Carolina.
The Battle of Bentonville was fought between March 19-21, 1865, was the largest Civil War battle in North Carolina and the last major battle between the armies under William T. Sherman and Joseph E. Johnston.
The Confederate General Johnston was ordered to stop the Union Army from advancing on Bentonville and hoped to destroy Sherman’s Union army in piecemeal.
